On Saturday September 9, 2000 the members of TU Chapter # 468 held their Annual Picnic at the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust, Huntindon Valley, PA. The 53 picnickers were in attendance included wives, children and several special invited quests.
In addition to the standard fare of grilled hambergers and hot dogs we had delicious potato salad, soft drinks, pretzels and potato chips. The wives also brought all kinds of desserts to cap off a great picnic meal. The successful stageing of this special outing was the joint efford of our entire TU Chapter membership.
Special thanks of appreciation go to the following persons: To Mark Munn, who produced and mailed the picnic reservations. To Hall McKinny and Ray Young for shopping for the food and utensils. Hall as usual served as our Chapter chef and to George Benson for bringing 50 lbs of mini-cubed ice. Other members helped set up the buffet and dessert tables and the two propane grills. The wonderful picnic area and the tables were borrowed from the Pennypack Trust for the picnic. We also had a huge "Fishing Gear Flea Market" table handled by Don Wallace a former member of our Chapter.
We chanced off a light tackle "7'5 wt complete fly rod outfit", donated by L.L.Bean of Freeport, ME. In addition we sold flies tied by our president Rudy Gable, and an "embroidered" Chapter sports shirt from our supplies inventory.
Our special guest: Brad Nyholm - Natural Area Preserve Steward for the Pennypack Trust, took about 25 of our picnickers on a guided mini tour of the Pennypack preserve. There are actually ten miles of trails within the 600 plus acres of the preserve. The Trust acreage includes forests, meadows, wetlands and several miles of the "Pennypack Creek". The wilderness of this sanctuary is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species.
Not only did everyone who attended our Chapter picnic have a good time - noone went away hungry; and we also made a small profit over expenses. This together with the Rod Raffle and the Flea Market Table added $241.43 to our treasury. It's obvious what can be accomplished when we all work together - Let's do this again Next Year!
