Report from the Chapter's monthly meeting Tuesday, April 11, 2006

The Chapter's Spring 2006 raffle winner is announced by Chapter President Den Mora at the monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 11

... and the lucky winner is .... Matt Simmonds!

Congratulations Matt!

Matt had a choice of either the Orvis T3 9-foot 8 wt fly rod or an Old Town 2-person canoe and he picked the canoe.

The winning ticket was picked by Joanne Schultz, who is a member of our chapter.

As you seee ... Matt chose the canoe.
Here you see Den Mora congratulating Matt for winning the canoe.

After our business meeting and a refreshment break the second part of the meeting was handed over to our guest speaker. The invited speaker was Dave Kristine from the PA Fish and Boat Commission. Dave is a biologist and works in the Habitat Management Division and is an expert in fish passage structures and dams. His evening talk was on Small Dam Removal in Pennsylvania.

Dave gave a very nice presentation that was well illustrated. It was interesting to see how small dams that are removed in a proper way actually improve the health of the stream and the local environment. The members enjoyed the presentation with a lot of questions from the members as well as their observations on these topics. Specifically, the members were questioning the impact of the many old dams along the Pennypack. The consensus was that our work along the Pennypack will definitely improve the stream and bring a more diverse life in and around the stream.

The turnout of members and new members was good. The beginning of Trout season is approaching and the excitement of trout, fishing trips and good companionship was in the air.
